Authors ‘Local Blogging’ with LikeList Mobile iPhone App during tour

SUNNYVALE, CA, October 27, 2011LikeList, a social-local network where people help each other discover more of the businesses they like and get trusted answers fast, announced today it is sponsoring the national book tour of Aliza Sherman and Danielle Smith’s new book Mom Incorporated: A Guide to Business + Baby, a fast selling business book that’s the go-to guide about home-based businesses for mothers with a baby or small children. While on tour, Sherman and Smith are ‘local blogging’ about the businesses they encounter using the LikeList Mobile app that allows them to instantly update their local referrals and recommendations to their base of social network followers.

Sherman is a web pioneer who founded the first woman-owned Internet company, Cybergrrl, Inc. and the first global women’s internet organization, Webgrrls International.  Sherman is the owner of digital consultancy Mediaegg and author of nine books including The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Crowdsourcing, The Everything Blogging Book, and Streetwise Ecommerce. An award-winning television news anchor, Smith is the founder of ExtraordinaryMommy.com and DanielleSmithMedia.com and is a storyteller, video correspondent, spokesperson, and public speaker. Mom, Incorporated is her first book.

The book provides the information moms need to launch a home-based business, starting with coming up with the business idea to finding resources to setting it up to staying on track. To help busy moms find great places to work outside of the home, Sherman created a likelist “Alternative Work Spaces,” identifying comfortable places to work with Wi-Fi, good lighting and something to eat.  Given Aliza’s great reputation among businesswomen and moms, this list is sure to be a valuable resource for working moms looking to find the best places to work locally while on the go.

“As moms, we just don’t have the time to sift through reviews from strangers to find the best places to enhance our daily lives or resources to help grow our businesses,” said Sherman. “Whether it’s finding gluten-free friendly restaurants or alternative workspaces when I’m traveling, LikeList Mobile helps me find what I need fast and helps others do the same by offering trusted lists of great local businesses.”

Through the LikeList free online service and LikeList Mobile app, consumers “like” businesses they want to recommend to their friends and others along with tips for why they like them, and the LikeList platform organizes these “likes” into useful, lists. These “likelists” capture first-hand experiences, hidden gems and great local businesses across any consumer category of interest or need from restaurants to contractors to local organic farms to great dance studios.  The likelist serves as a person’s treasure trove of local knowledge neatly packaged into list form for today’s busy need- and want-driven lifestyles. SUNNYVALE, CA, September 28, 2011LikeList, a social-local referral service where people share lists to help each other discover great local businesses and get trusted answers fast, is launching a new social list feature that lets groups of people with interests or tastes in common share and discuss the local businesses they like.  In today’s announcement, LikeList is introducing “Sharelists,” collaborative lists designed to allow small or large groups of people to share great local businesses and advice with each other.  With Sharelists people can collaboratively author a list of recommended businesses together, while helping each other with discussions and advice for life’s daily needs, wants or passions.

Through the LikeList free online service, users create lists of businesses they like along with tips for why they like them. On LikeList.com, users can quickly search and filter the likelists of people they know to get trusted answers fast.

The new Sharelists take the concept of lists a step further by providing a social venue for users to not only share lists of businesses they like, but to have conversations around them. As more people follow and contribute to the list, the list generates greater value for its audience.  Users can invite others to help build their Sharelists through the personal connections of their various social networking sites.

Three types of Sharelists are available:

  • Broadcast Sharelists – Lists curated by an influencer, shared with all
  • Crowd Sharelists – Lists created by all, shared with all
  • Personal Group Sharelists – Private lists created and shared by a group

Sharelists provide a local, social-media venue for people to discuss the hidden gems they value, but with greater structure, context and privacy if they want it.  Sharelists can be about anything such as the best vegetarian burritos, the best gluten-free restaurants, the best places to dine with outdoor views or any valuable experience people want to share with others.  Users in smaller groups can collaborate within private Sharelists, such as a family sharing a list of doctors, a moms group planning Girls Night Out or a wine group sharing very select wineries and hidden gems they offer to their best patrons.

“On LikeList, busy people who thrive on connections to friends, family or their community can help each other just like they do offline, by sharing great local businesses and hidden gems they discovered,” said Jim Delli Santi, CEO and president of LikeList. “Now by starting a Sharelist about local businesses around a specific theme or context, LikeList users can collaboratively build a trusted, durable and searchable local online resource together over time, while sharing relevant and useful advice to help each other in their daily lives.”

Plug and Play Tech Center’s start-up, LikeList, served as mentor in U.S. Department of State’s TechWomen program

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – July 6, 2011 – A young woman CEO from Algeria has traveled to Silicon Valley to gain in-depth knowledge to help her launch her venture, the first online discount coupon site in her home country, through TechWomen, a U.S. Department of State program. The program, in its pilot year, pairs women from the Middle East and North Africa with mentors at leading technology companies.  Loubna Lahmici, CEO of Ideatic, an Algerian start-up, was one of 37 women from the Middle East and North Africa identified as emerging leaders in technical fields who were paired up with their American counterparts for professional mentorship.

Launched in June 2011, TechWomen paired women from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and the Palestinian Territories with 24 participating Silicon Valley technology companies for the five-week program.  Using innovative technologies, cutting-edge content, and social networking tools, TechWomen fosters and develops the next generation of women leaders in the technology field by providing women and girls with the access and opportunity needed to pursue tech-based careers.

Loubna was matched up with LikeList, a website where people discover and share local businesses and positive experiences, to learn how to interface with venture capitalists, to craft online marketing programs, and how to launch a new venture.  Since LikeList is located at the Plug and Play Tech Center, Loubna also experienced firsthand how the leading high-tech accelerator’s from Sunnyvale more than 300 start-ups from all over the world are thriving in Silicon Valley.

“My experience in the TechWomen program was invaluable, giving me insights into cutting-edge technologies, connecting me with counterparts, and opening up new opportunities for the growth of my business,” said Loubna.  “I will return to my home country with the latest best practices, new ideas and projects that I will share with my colleagues and team.”

Loubna is championing online commerce and changing Internet shopping in Algeria. In a country with more than 8 million Internet users and more than 30 million mobile users, Loubna is changing Algerian consumer behavior by introducing the Internet as a tool to save time and money.  Her company, Ideatic, is incubating a new site which is an online site that provides limited, high-value printable coupons and mobile coupons for significant discounts which help to drive traffic and sales to local stores.

“Because of her local knowledge, business relationships and deep understanding of Internet usage and technology limitations in Algeria, Loubna is crafting a solution that’s culturally appropriate for Algeria,” said Jill Finlayson, senior director of Community at LikeList and Loubna’s mentor. “Rather than trying to force a model from other countries onto Algeria, she is taking the best practices and ideas from Silicon Valley and localizing them to help Algeria take the first steps toward online shopping.”
