What is LikeList? [Show]

LikeList is a next generation local directory where friends who think alike share lists of favorite businesses. It helps people share the plumbers, doctors and restaurants they rely on, or like best with other friends quickly. It’s like word-of-mouth recommendations, only better because our technology makes recommendations searchable. So every time someone adds a business or a friend to LikeList they help themselves —and help you too. In the end it’s where consumers and businesses alike find each other in the most efficient way.

How much does it cost? [Show]

LikeList is free to all members and business users.

How does it work? [Show]

After you join LikeList, you then create a personal list of your recommended local businesses. The list you create is called your “LikeList". You can add non-local businesses to your LikeList as well. Then invite friends, family and colleagues to join LikeList so you can share your LikeLists and widen your circle of trusted resources. If you’re looking for a type of business that your friends haven’t listed, you can ask for a recommendation. In fact, you can ask anyone for a recommendation through LikeList, as long as you have his or her email address.

Do I have to register to use LikeList? [Show]

We recommend that you do register for LikeList to truly benefit from the service. It only takes a moment to join. Users who don't register can view listings, but won't enjoy personal recommendations from friends.

How can I connect with friends, family and businesses if I don't have their email address? [Show]

You can connect with them through Facebook! Look for the Facebook Connection link in the lower left corner or your Home page.

What is my LikeList? [Show]

Your LikeList is a list of your favorite businesses that you recommend to friends. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll see "My LikeLists" in the left-hand column. This column is where your TryList and any other LikeLists you create will go. Each business listing in your Lists includes information from our database such as the business category, address and contact information. You may also add comments about any business you add to your LikeList.

Do I have to create a LikeList to see other Likes? [Show]

Nope. You can always see the favorite businesses of all members combined without joining. But when you join, you can see your individual friends' LikeLists, and the LikeLists of groups of friends too. You can also search across your friends’ and all members’ LikeLists.

Who can see my LikeList? [Show]

LikeList is built on trust, so your identity is only shared with friends you’ve connected with through the LikeList site. All members and visitors can conduct local searches, but the search results are anonymous unless you’re connected with that member. Only the friends you’re connected with in your LikeList network can view your identity and your LikeList.

Is LikeList in my hometown? [Show]

To date LikeList contains over 14 million U.S. businesses so most likely your local businesses are already present. And every time a local business is added to someone's LikeList it becomes more locally valuable.

Is LikeList available in Canada, Mexico or other international countries? [Show]

Not at this time but we're eager to add them to our growing US database.

Can I create multiple LikeList accounts? [Show]

Yes, it's possible though we'd recommend having just one for the benefit of all of your friends and colleagues.

Search

Why can't I search for a business without entering a city? [Show]

Searches without a city reference can result in too many listings to be helpful so we've narrowed it for you.

What if I don't know in which city a particular business is located? [Show]

Simply pick another city that you think is closest and use the Radius tool above the map to expand the distance for the search.

How is the ranking of search results determined? [Show]

The businesses most likely to be right for you will be top ranked based on how many of your friends and members like those businesses. Our system is based on "personal relevance". You can also change the order to Alphabetical or Distance (from entered city).

User comments

What types of Comments are best? [Show]

Helpful comments with specifics are best because they provide the most valuable information. You know, the types of things good friends share with each other. For example: "ask for Dr. Brown, she's the best listener" or "the mountain view rooms are the quietest". You get the idea.

Does LikeList ever remove comments? [Show]

Very rarely and only when comments don't conform to our Privacy Policy or Terms and Conditions for fairness or appropriate content.

What if I don't agree with someone's Like? Can I say something negative? [Show]

We don't encourage negative comments. LikeList stands for only what's best in any community, so it fits to keep things up-beat. Since the rankings you see are based on the positive opinions of your trusted friends and their friends, there's little need for negativity.

Marketing Programs

Who do I contact for info about BzzAgent, MyPoints and InboxDollars? [Show]

We used these three services to run some survey, user testing and membership drive programs. In some cases, limited-time rewards were offered for participants who completed surveys and/or created their LikeList and invited friends to join. If you have any questions about one of the programs please contact support@likelist.com.

LikeList for Businesses

How can I update the details in a business listing? [Show]

You can update listing info if you run a business or are authorized by it's owner to represent it. Just email changes to listings@likelist.com.

Manage My Account

What does "Keep me signed in" mean? [Show]

You probably don't want to sign into LikeList every time you come to our site, with the 'Keep me signed in' button checked you will stay signed into our site for up to 2 weeks or until you sign out. If you visit LikeList again during the 2 week period it will reset, so as long as you come back regularly you'll never need to sign in again.

Don't forget to uncheck this button if you're on a public computer or if multiple users of LikeList share the same machine.

How do I cancel my LikeList membership? [Show]

Please Contact us and we'll delete your records.

How do I remove a friend? [Show]

On the My Friends page simply click the "X" in your friend's bio box and they'll be disconnected from you on LikeList.
